Magic & Alchemy

What is officially confirmed about Hearth and Hamlet magic, alchemy, research unlocks, kingdom uses, and the details still unknown before launch.

Magic is confirmed, but its rules are not fully public

The official Steam description says players can research technologies, unlock magic, accumulate magical power, and use alchemy as the kingdom develops. That establishes Magic and Alchemy as real systems rather than decorative fantasy language.

What official material does not yet provide is a complete spell list, potion list, ingredient database, production formula, research path, cost table, duration, or cooldown structure. Publishing dozens of named spell pages before seeing the release build would create an attractive but unreliable wiki.

How magic fits the kingdom

The confirmed progression suggests a chain:

  1. Settlement upgrades create access to more advanced systems.
  2. Research permanently unlocks technologies, including magic-related capabilities.
  3. The kingdom accumulates or produces magical power.
  4. Alchemy or magical effects provide new ways to influence production, growth, defense, or other systems.

The fourth step is deliberately broad. Exact uses must come from the game rather than assumptions based on other city builders.

What players can plan around now

Treat Magic as a later research-linked layer, not an opening resource that can rescue unstable Food or worker allocation. The official swamp screenshot also shows a dedicated Magic action, suggesting that magical progression reaches beyond a single building.

The Research Tree explains the confirmed technology relationship, while Buildings & Upgrades covers the settlement progression that may gate advanced systems. Named spells, alchemy items, ingredients, effects, durations, and cooldowns remain unconfirmed for the full release.
