Does Hearth and Hamlet work on Steam Deck?
Steam Deck support is not officially verified yet. The full-game store promises SteamOS/Linux support, but there is no current Valve Verified or Playable rating and Steam does not list a controller-support category.
Those are separate questions: a game can provide a native Linux build and still need work for the Deck's controls, 1280×800 screen, suspend behavior, text size, or performance profile.
What improved in the Demo?
Early in the Demo period, the developer described the Deck as not yet compatible, with pixel-art UI scaling as a central problem. Demo v1.0.46 added automatic and manual UI scaling, updated resolution options, changed zoom and game size for 4K readability, and allowed helper arrows to be hidden. The patch notes specifically framed the UI work as making different setups—including handheld-sized displays—more comfortable.
Community results remain mixed. Some players report that the Demo launches and plays, while others describe periodic crashes. The developer has also reported running it on a personal Deck and suggested current Proton versions plus verified game files when troubleshooting. These reports are useful but do not replace a Valve compatibility review.
What should Deck players do now?
- Install the newest Demo build rather than relying on an older April installation.
- Update SteamOS and Proton before diagnosing crashes.
- Verify the Demo files through Steam.
- Try the available Vulkan and compatibility/OpenGL launch choices if one renderer fails.
- Set a comfortable manual UI scale and confirm that panels fit the display.
- Expect mouse-style interaction unless formal controller support is added.
The current verdict is planned SteamOS/Linux support, unverified Steam Deck status. Native Linux availability, input behavior, suspend/resume, UI readability, and crash stability are not confirmed for the August 19 build.
